Backroads to New York

Backroads to New York is the result of 12,000 miles in a Ford Mustang on America’s back roads during the summer of 2015 and my visits to New York over the course of 20 years.

There I met the ghosts of my myths, cowboys, rodeos, sheriffs, Indians, canyons, deserts, dusty roads, motels, Denny’s with their smiling waitresses serving more coffee, horse races, snakeskin jackets, oil wells, roadrunners, seventies cars, cacti and rolling bushes, black clouds, white sand dunes, blazing skies, tornadoes, endless mountains , infinite spaces; and everything, big. America from the window of a 21st century pony.
